The Effect of Pyridoxine on Tumor Growth**

چکیده
It has recently been observed that the incidence of liver tumors due to p-dimethylaminoazobenzene is much less in rats fed a diet deficient in pyridoxine than in animals on a more complete ration (6). The effect of pyridoxine was evident when the caloric intake of the animals on the two diets was equal, and no similar effect was observed in any of a number of other vitamin deficiencies. Several possible explanations might be offered to account for the suppression of carcinogenesis by the diet low in pyridoxine: (a) the metabolic fate of the azo dye might have been so altered by the deficiency that the effective carcinogenic potency of the compound was reduced; (b) the biochemical reactions by which tumor cells are formed may have been minimized; or (c) tumor cells may have formed as usual, but their subsequent proliferation have been retarded as a result of the dietary deficiency. Accordingly a study was made of the response of a number of different types of tumors to synthetic diets low in pyridoxine. The neoplasms included developing mouse tumors due to the injection or local application of methylcholanthrene, preformed primary mouse tumors, and three types of transplantable tumors. Since the most successful results were obtained with the latter types, the appropriate experiments are described in detail.

The effect of vitamin B6 on growth of tumor.
Attempts have been made to clarify the effect of pyridoxine deficiency as well as its overdosis on growth of transplantable tumors in mouse and rat. The growth of transplantable solid tumor in pyridoxine deficient animals was remarkably suppressed while that of ascites tumor was not. The tumor bearing host was administered with a large amounts of pyridoxine and pyridoxal phosphate resulting in ...
متن کاملThe Effect of Pyridoxine Deficiency on a Spectrum of Mouse and Rat Tumors*
In the initial studies on the effect of pyridoxine deficiency upon tumor growth, deficient diets were fed to rats and mice to impair the functions dependent upon the vitamin; inhibition of tumor growth was observed with Sarcoma 180 (S-180) (1), Flexner-Jobling carcinoma, Yale adenocarcinoma-1 and a mouse fibrosarcoma (7). In nearly all subsequent investigations dietary depletion was combined wi...

Three levels of lysine (90, 100 and 110% of Ross requirement) and of pyridoxine (3, 6 and 9 mg kg-1) were used in a 3 × 3 factorial experiment to investigate the growth and blood antioxidant ability of broilers under high ambient temperature. None of the dietary supplements affected the weight gain during the starter and grower periods. Although no significant differences were detect...
متن کاملDifferences in the Selective Antitumor Effects of 4-deoxypyridoxine and Dietary Pyridoxine Deficiency.
The effects of 4-deoxypyridoxine were contrasted with those of prolonged periods of dietary pyridoxine deficiency using Sarcoma 180 (S-180) as a test system. The drug was inactive against this tumor in animals fed complete diets. The antime tabolite markedly inhibited the growth of S-180 in mice fed a vitamin B6-deficient diet from the day of tumor implantation. Under such dietary conditions, w...
متن کاملThe Effect of Oral Administration of L-Tyrosine, Folic acid and Pyridoxine on Perphenazine Induced Catatonia in Rat
L-tyrosine, B6 and folic acid are involved in biosynthesis of DOPA and consequently dopamine. The aim of this study was to investigate the antiparkinsonian effect of these agents in perphenazine-induced catatonia in rats. Murprogo method or scored muscular rigidity, which is induced by a phenothiazine, was used to evaluate the antiparkinsonian effect of these agents. A significant decrease in m...
